What the heck is all this useless wiring for?!

Well I just spent an hour or so fitting my minidisc player into the 924. In the process, I had to pull out an old Sony CD player that was in there when I bought it. I just had upload this - I removed so much unecessary wiring I began to wonder if I could possibly be missing something incredibly important:

Who the hell would wire up a radio like this?!? They'd used the ignition wire for both switched and constant supply to the radio (despite the fact that a constant wire was available and right next to the switched supply), feeding it through three differently rated fuses in the process and a weird looking black box with a capacitor and a little transformer in it. I guess it's some kinda suppressor but I don't see any reason why I'd need it - there's no radio as there isn't an ariel, so it can't be to help reduce noise and the power feed is a pretty good 12V, it doesn't look to need levelling out at all.

Well at least it kept me occupied and confused as I mercilessly cut it all out, wondering if there was some special reason for needing a 1 amp, 4 amp and 12 amp fuses wired up in series.

Chris.

The fundamental reason is:

Some People Have No Bl00dy Idea

Car electrics (or any electrics for that matter) are not complicated but some people just can't grasp the basics.

With any audio or radio equipment it's good practice to run it direct from the battery - you'll get less supply borne interference.

Chris B (lord snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

They couldn't find a 17amp fuse?
