1992 5.0 EFI/EEC Education Sought

I have quite a bit of experience in building carbureted engines and I now have a 92 5.0 EFI that I want to build a 331 with a S/C.

Guys...I need to acquire an education on how to understand and tweek the computer which runs the EFI.

I have the resources to purchase Analyers, and other gizmos as required for addressing fuel curves and such. I have a laptop computer, but I honestly don't know where to start.

I'd like some input on what manuals, text, or other resources I can tap into in order to educate myself on how this stuff works.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to get a copy of Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control, 1988-1993 by Charles Probst. It's published by Robert Bentley, Inc.. It's available online for as little as $20, or have your bookstore look up ISBN 0-8376-0301-3. Or you can pay a lot more by ordering it from your Ford dealer as SVO part no. M-1832-Z1.

This book comes highly recommended by many of us here who deal with the EEC-IV systems, myself included.

Probst gives interesting little factoids and keeps the reading somewhat interesting, well, as interesting as a technical description of fuel injection systems can be.

He explains fuel injection from its beginnings. The performance section leaves a lot to be desired, but in the book is a complete list of codes for both 2-digit and 3-digit EEC-IV codes, as well as operating ranges of every sensor in Ford and Mazda cars and light trucks, plus wiring diagrams.

It's a must-have if you're going to be diving into the brains of your late-model Ford...

Thats a big Ten-Four on the Probst book. If you have one ounce of automotive, logic, and electronics talent, you will come out of reading that book wondering why everyone doesnt understand the system.
