2005+ V6 rebuilding?

One last question, promise :)

As I stated, I keep my cars forever which is usually 200/300/400k miles. Currently have a 92 Caprice getting close to 400,000 miles and only engine work I did was new timing chain/gears at about 300k miles.

How is the Mustang V6 to work on?

IOW, the usual stuff, water pump, starter, alternator etc but especially the timing chain/gear (what's it got??) set up ?

I plan on getting the factory manual, like I do with all my cars, and like I said I maintain everything myself except for warranty stuff.

The reason I ask is that some guy was telling me that the V6 is a clusterfsck when it comes to timing chains, sprockets etc.

I am totally ignorant of this particular motor, as well as the V8 so with that in mind, and the fact I intend to keep it for a long time, how easy is the basic top engine rebuild stuff?

TIA!!!

Just as a point of reference, I was able to replace a timing chain on a Mitsubishi 2.6 with those wacky balance shafts etc and managed to not screw it up. I can't imagine anything more complicated than that one :)

Yes, the 4.0L is a PITA if you need to tear it apart. Timing chain on the passenger side is on the BACK of the motor! Nothing is indexed... requires special Ford tools.. You get the picture! LOL!

Now... the thing is if you watch E-bay you can pick up a lightly used

4.0L at a very reasonable cost... usually under $1000... some times well under $1000! When I broke my pistion (125HP shot of N20 at 2000 RPM... bad idea! LOL!) we simply picked up a used 4.0L with less than 10,000 miles on it (just getting broke in!) for $900. Thing look like new! I've put 8,000 blown miles on it without a hitch!!! We'll be rebuilding my original motor this winter so I'll be updating my website with pics and a write up! So watch for that! LOL!

As far as other things under the hood... they all seem pretty easy to get to and work on... Only thing is there is no dipstick for your auto tranny...

Ouch :(

Sounds like a nightmare. Typical timing chain replace is around 150k or so/

What about the V8??

Same story?

Anyone?

I kinda learned a long time ago about picking up things that are either NOS or rebuilt. The problem is you never know. A motor with 3k on it might have 3k of 1/4 mile (or similar) runs.

My first experience was going through 4 rebuilt carbs (all defective) for my 383 before I gave up and purchased a rebuild kit and rebuilt my own. It wasn't rocket science. Just follow the instructions.

That seems to be the norm these days, unfortunately.
