2K GT stalls when cold during humid/hot days

Sometimes when I start the car in the morning, it will stall unless I keep my foot on the accelerator for 10 minutes or so. It seems to happen only during hot/humid weather. There is no smoke or engine vibration (all cylinders seem to be kicking in). If it was a gas or air filter, I figure this would happen all the time. Is this a sensor problem? Should I just buy some KY and go to my dealer for "advice". Thanks Mark

Astroglide works better.

Why not use carb. cleaner in the EGR valve? Just curious.

Good stuff. I use it over WD-40 when I'm trying to break loose some stuck bolts.

Guess that's how I f*cked up my EGR valve... I just replaced mine LOL. Car started pinging with 91 octane... that just ain't right. Now it doesn't ping on 87.

First of all, I don't know near as much about cars as the rest of you seem to. I don't know much about the insides, I just have a 2000 Mustang GT convertible that I love.

Anyway, I'm replying because I recently had a similar problem with my Mustang. For a couple of weeks, I had a problem with starting the car. It wouldn't start on the first try, then would on the 2nd try. Before I could take it in for it's next maintenance service, the problem got worse. I was able to get the car to start, but it wouldn't hold an idle. I had to drive the car to the dealer with one foot on the brake and one on the gas at all times to keep it going. This sounds similar to the problem described below.

The problem was that they had to replace the Idle Air Solenoid, or something like that (again, I'm a novice, and I don't have it written down in front of me). So this could also be the problem.

Hope I helped some.

Hello guys,

I have a 2001 GT. I had the same problem about 2 months ago. It was not idling at the start (The rpm was coming down to 300 and then the engine was shutting off if I didn't rev up), and I should put my foot on the acceleration pedal for 5 minutes, after that the car was OK and idling fine. First, it was happening once a week for three weeks in the morning (when it was cold), then the problem repeated for three days in the row whenever I was trying to start the car, when finally I brought the car to the dealer. They changed the idle sensor and reprogrammed the chip, and it solved the problem.

I took off the IAC cover and sprayed with carb cleaner as suggested by one of the posts. So far all is OK. I have a K&N air filter that I probably oiled too much and it could have caused the problems. I LOVE THE NEWSGROUP CONCEPT. SO MUCH MONEY SAVED VIA NON-PARTIAL ADVICE.
