5.0 not pulling. FINALLY SOLVED

Well, thanks to ALL who tried to help me get my 1993 5.0 to pull hard past

3,000rpm.... it just wasn't doing it.

Well, I know it was said before in this group, and it's too bad I didn't do it first, but, today I went to the local Ford dealership. There is an advisor there who has a 93 Cobra. Nice car - possibly my favourite! And on the spray too. It's sweet.

Anyway, I told him what the problem was, and before I could say what I had done to try and cure it, he said his 93 had the same problem at WOT... then he asked me if I had an aftermarket chip in it. Which I do. So right there, we pulled the chip. WOW. Problem solved!!! My guy was saying that these chips can screw up the computer at WOT.

Now, my car is FAST! With the synthetic oil, H-pipe, exhaust work, timing bump (about 17), it pulls like crazy! Ah, I'm SO happy! Thanks for everyone who responded, especially MustangGuy who helped me recently to figure out the chip. I really appreciate it everyone!

God, it's good to be fast...!

Glad to hear it Brad. You are in Calgary if I remember correclty, right?

What dealership did you go to? I didn't think you could get the '93 Cobra's in Canada...

I just put a Steeda TriAx in mine, love it. I've got an appointment with WMS on the 30th to put in their sub frames and 3.73s. Can't wait.

Hey Darren, et al....

Yip, I'm in Cowtown. :) I took the car to Advantage. There are a lot of Mustang guys there and they know them well. It's the only place I go really.

The chip was an ADS Superchip. It's a POS. I can't believe just getting rid of it made so much of a difference. My Mustang Performance Handbook - I'm sure you've all seen it - dynos this ADS chip. They said 10hp and 6lbs. But, when they took the chip out, but left in the octane rod (which mechanically advances the timing to 17 degrees) they said they got the same #s. So basically, you're paying whatever for a two inch strip of metal. What a waste.

I'd recommend people pull their chips. I find it highly unlikely that two

93s with the same problem had the same solution - an aftermarket chip. That my service advisor knew the problem and solution right when I said WOT above 3 grand means that this must be a pretty common thing. Honestly, you cannot imagine the difference pulling this chip made!

As for WMS Darren, they are good. No doubt about it. They did my H-pipe and the work was quality. But they fuked up on the quote and it was $75 more in the end. I was pretty pissed. You'd think they would know. 3.73s eh? Let me know as soon as you get them in (and the final price) cause I'm thinking the same thing... but I'm curious how big your smile will be! :)

Again, thanks everyone who helped me... I love this group!

5 Star? Dodge? Advantage Ford has lots of Mustang junkies... Ask for Kendal, the guy with the blue 93.... he knows Mustangs!
