"67 Coupe Export Brace"

Hi everyone, Once more I'm drawing upon your expertise in the field of Mustangs.....

I just bought a Chrome Export brace to install under the hood of my 67 Coupe, I placed it upon the existing bars just for S&G's...Looks good!!! But on the odd chance that one side or the other doesn't line up what's the best/easiest way to correct the off kilter bolt holes? Should I start with one side, get the bolts started, then go to the other, and finally try the Firewall side??? Surely someone here has ran into what I'm about to encounter.....Help me out please......Trooper

I would pu tall the hardware in just a couple of thread each so that way you got some free play to work with and then torque everything down. If that dont work you have 1 of 3 problems 1. wrong brace

  1. bent brace
  2. bent body/frame work

hope this helps

If the '67 has a cross-brace under the oil pan like the '66 does, lift the ftont wheels off of the ground using that brace and then put your export brace on. Its supposed to help the towers "relax" into a neutral position. Or thats what I've heard and they way I've done it.

But

I'll be doing this soon to my 66, and here's what I will try: I intend to install the brace securely at the firewall and lock it down tight. Then I'll connect each tower using a porta power if necessary to attach each side. The reason I'm going to do this in this order is in case one side is leaning more than the other (if at all). If one side is off more than the other, and the shock towers are connected to each other first (even loosely), it seems it would be more difficult to move the brace laterally at the firewall point than move each tower.

Well some of the pressure is from the springs pushing up and in too. So relieving some of that pressure by unloading the springs would certainly help. StuK

Unless the frame itself is leaning in from the weight of the motor (is it a BB or SB). He might end up needing a spreader to push the shock towers apart. Lifting it up by the bottom cross brace might not be enough to pull the towers apart, but worth the try before renting the spreader.

Place the jack under the the middle of the cross brace below the radiator. lay the export brace in place and raise the jack until the body flexes enough to line up the bolt holes
