89 5.0 AOD upgrades

I know this subject has been beaten to death but perhaps the experts here could help me understand my options.

Car is 89 5.0 LX vert with AOD. Stock engine, Griggs suspension mods and

3.73 gears. I am happy with torque and power 0-80mph (enough that I can't always keep rear tires adhering).

My problem is driving city streets at 10-40mph the AOD just doesn't stay in

2nd. If I am accelerating hard then I can move through 2nd into third without a problem but if I am in traffic the following seems to be the sequence.

0-10mph 1st, 10-15mph 2nd, 15-35mph 3d and then OD unless I place it in D.

The problem is if I am going 20mph and suddenly want to go 50mph I either need to floor it to get an automatic downshift or drop it into L in which case if I drop below about 15mph it suddenly downshifts into 1st with an unnecessary load on the engine and drivetrain.

Are there any AOD mods which would allow me to manually select L, 2nd, 3d and OD. Or any mods which would keep the transmission in 2nd until approximately 3500RPM.

I would like to maintain drivability but not be lugging it during 20-45mph driving around town.

Thanks Howard

You can adjust the line pressure to the tranny so that it will shift at higher rpm's. But be careful as I don't believe it's the healthiest thing for the AOD. I ended up getting an Art Carr AOD with full manual valve body and I love it.

Good deal. Here's a link to LenTech AODs - it's an alternative to Art Carr:
