93 LX question

My son is at college driving a 93 LX, 4cyl, has been running fine but lately he tells me his gas mileage is way down, and has been getting intermittant check engine lite. He took it to Advance auto to have them read the code, seems its calling out the O2 sensor as the fault. So I looked up O2 sensors on Advance web site, there are several listed some with 8" leads some with 13" leads, others are generic, looks like you're meant to "cut and trim" to fit. So, my question is, which one(8" or 13 ") is correct for the 93 LX,

4cyl. ? Is this dependant on production date? What are the "gotchas" in changing the O2 sensor, you what not to do ? Remove when cold , hot, pre-soak threads with penetrating oil, special wrench needed? Any advice will be appreciated? THE FIRST GOTCHA is that you didnt supply the code!!!!

If the code was for lean or rich or not switching, it aint the O2 sensor.

If it's rich and the engine doesnt idle well and harder to start - that's PROBABLY the fuel pressure regulator

As to "length" - Lessee... do they make tape rules with braille lettering? Find one and feel around for the existing leads and see what you have there... do you get my meaning?

In fact if they dont come with term connector, i have no idea why they even have two lengths

Bosch invented and patented... should be a clue as to brand to buy.

penetrant then drive it, then wrap wet rag around base of sensor while hot as comfortable, then remove with special socket... problems - cut wires midlength, use box-end to loosen, worst case - use anything that doesnt destroy threads.
