96 Mustang-Electrical Issue or Fuse?

I have a 96 Mustang and my left turn signal went out a few days ago. I haven't had the chance to replace because of Hurricane Francis and that is what made me notice other differences.

When my lights and the radio are on and I use my turn signal, I notice that the digital display on my radio will flash. It does not do it unless the turn signal is on. I am going to have the alternator tested tomorrow, but was wondering if I have a fuse out. Did I mention that my left turn signal will work as long as I don't "Lock" it into position? As long as I hold it on with my hand, prior to it locking into place, it works just fine. One of my friends who used to own a Mustang said that is sounded like a fuse getting ready to go...

Or, could it be the turn signal handle and the wiring has a loose wire? Or something to that effect?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I hold >it on with my hand

It sounds as though you are having problems with the contacts inside the multi-function switch. I am starting to see more and more of the 94+ switches doing this, the only cure would be to replace it.

May or may not be related to above, I would cure the turn signal problem first and then work on diagnosing this problem, its possible the multi function switch could have something to do with it.

Thanks for the response Tim. The only time I noticed when it does it is when the lights are on. I realized this when I woke up this morning and that the switch is the obvious choice--as the other thing I noticed is that when I use the upper settings of my windshield wiper controls that it will sometimes hesitate...Well, off to find the part and set up an appointment at my local dealer.

Thanks again! Lisa

This is just noise in the circuit.

My guess is the multifunction switch's turn signal function has failed. Mine is slowly dying, and does a rapid-flash when I just hold it for a lane change.

I had to replace mine a few months ago. It would do all sorts of weird things.
