AfterMarket RW Defroster for 66 FB

Anyone who has a source or a "how to" for installing a rear window defrost/defog on a 1966 FB it would be gretly appreciated.

Glass companies around here say they have never heard of an after market application.

You can do a lot of upgrades... this is one I would rather have than electric windows and door locks.

Thanks in advance.

Back in the '60s, we used to have a choice of two kinds of aftermarket rear window defoggers...... one was a fan that mounted into the parcel deck (kinda tough on a fastback) and the other was the fugliest thing you ever saw from a company called "FrostShield"..... neither worked particularly well here in Alberta....

All I can suggest is a web search.

The one from FrostShield (I don't know if this outfit is still around.... with the improvements in auto HVAC, I doubt it) was a stick on mat..... after you stuck it on, though, it stuck out like a wedding pri..... errr, sore thumb. Trying to remove an existing one from another vehicle will more than likely destroy it....

Sorry I can't be more helpful....

My '67 Galaxie 500 (2 door hardtop/fastback) had an aftermarket rear window defroster in it when I got it. It was pretty beat up, some of the lines were torn up. It kinds sorta worked, but would have surly worked better had it been new. It was just one bar on each side of the window connecting little conductive adhesive strips across it, then connected to a little pushbutton switch mounted under the dash. I think at some point in time I musta have broken the wires going to it as it stopped working. Probably when I put carpet on the rear deck.

My '68 Galaxie 500 (2 door hardtop/formal roof) has a factory rear defrost. It is a little fan in the rear deck that blows up on the window. That never worked and I didn't even figure out that grille in the back covered a fan until recently. Even then I never really looked into why it didn't work as winter was over by then and the bottom end went kaput over the summer so it's sitting in my great grandma's garage right now.

JC Whitney used to have an aftermarket stick-on element defroster kit, but from the looks of their website, they don't have it anymore.

If you should find one somewhere, I have to warn you: according to the glass shop that recently replaced the windshield in my family's minivan, you run a high risk of shattering the glass with an aftermarket element defroster, especially in an old car with original glass. A blower/heater probably would be OK though.
