Car buying agencies

Hi folks

I've got my Honda Integra up for sale in magazines and web sites, don't worry I'm not goin to try and get a free ad on this group! I do have a big gripe though. I keep getting phone calls from these agencies who say they have buyers lined up to buy my car but before they give you their details you have to pay them a fee first, usually about =A390! Despite my polite replies of no thank you I'm not interested, they still persist on calling almost daily. Getting to the point of phone rage now! I just had a guy on saying he was the director of the agency and that he owns a =A3108,000 car and that I have made a big mistake by advertising the car the way I have. He said no one reads the car magazines or web sites anymore and that his way is the way that everyone will be using to buy cars! I was apparently living in the past! He offered me =A31000 more that what I have the car advertised at and said I have under priced it. Rubbish! Oh he also said he has a Judge as one of his customers who is using them to find him a Jensen interceptor!?! What difference does that make to me, true or not!

The guy was extremely forward and getting to the point of being aggressive on the phone. I ended up having to say "look I have said no twice already..." and he hung up.

Has anyone actually used these agencies before either to buy or sell your car? Most say they are all a scam and that once they have your =A390 or whatever you won't hear from them again. I'm not going to use them, not after that phone call but interested to hear other peoples experiences with them.

yes , you just tell them to hang on till you get the bloke selling the "ford" or whatever and you toss the phone down and forget about it for a while......

You hold a yard sale, the pros show up an hour early and take all (if any) of the good stuff.

You put an ad in an auto magazine, the pros call first. However they can make a buck and whatever they have to do to get it, they do. Ignore them, if possible.

I like the above response from Jim. It's what they deserve.

I stopped right here because: 1) it's about a Honda, 2) it's WAY=20 too long, and 3) most importantly, at that point right there if you deal =

anymore with that person other than to have them jailed for something=20 the only fitting phrase is "a fool and his money soon part."

yeah its about a Honda but I'm selling it to buy a 'stang so posted here.

Hey I just thought I'll listen to the crap this guy is talking for a couple of minutes, when the phone rang it got me out a boring meeting so I welcomed his garbage talk for about 2 1/2 minutes. By that time I was even more fed up with him.

Always makes me laugh when some company or person thinks we will part with our hard earned cash as easliy as that over the phone.

If what he proposes is not some how illegal, tell him you will pay him his fee at the meeting where the title is transferred and out of the money that the new owner pays you for the car. If he is legitimate there is absolutely no reason at all for him to refuse that offer. Actually there is one reason, he plans to skip with your money.

I stopped reading right here because: 1) you're making the right move, 2) you've already had the best advice, and 3) ... uh...

I'll get back to you.

Here's how it works... he will send someone to pick up the car... a third party. He will have issued a cheque to this third party to cover the purchase price plus expenses that the third party will pay transporting the car away.. usually shipping costs or something else....

You will cash the cheque and giver the balance to the third party.... who will be long gone with your car and your cash by the timne you find the buyers cheque bounced higher than a kite....
