*@&*%&@&#* Dipstick Tube!!

Working on my '66 289 (2v) engine (it's out of the car). Went to remove the disptick tube, and the sucker broke off at the bottom, leaving part of it in the timing cover. Any ideas (short of replacing the cover) on how to get that stub out?

You might try using an "extraction bit". They come in a couple of different configurations and sizes. They are particularly handy when a bolt or stud breaks off. Of course then you have to drill out the center of the bolt/stud to use the bit. So you're ahead of the game with a piece of the tube to remove.

The extraction bit will expand the tube:

Then ca inch by use it to not come out as you turn the bit harder. Try a 3/8 inch, by 16 or 24 thread per inch tap.

Thread it into the tube about an inch, then grab it with vise grips, and hammer up the vise grips, and it should come right out!

I hope this helps?
