exhaust headers

I have a 65' mustang coupe, with a 302 with about 390 HP and a 5 speed. I am looking for a good set of exhaust headers to hook up to this thing. Any advice at all would be helpful, thank you.

Two questions....

What did you do to the little 302 to get 390HP out of it, and is that at the flywheel or at the rear wheels?

What type of headers are you looking for? Long tubes? I'm not big on the early models (love 'em, can't afford one) so I really don't know what's available... but you might want to try Mustangs Unlimited. They have an early model catalog. Summit Racing or Jegs might also be able to help you.

Its got to be flywheel... that would require at least 450fwhp to produce 390 at the rear. Still pretty good power though.

should be able to hook him up, at a decent price.

And if he's got a T5, it's lunch if he's not real careful...

How did you do that?

Why is 390hp out of a 302 so unbelievable? heh... just curious. I don't understand it all. Wanting to learn.

It's not, but it takes quite a bit to get there. $$$$$$. You pretty much need a stroker unless you're blowing it. ~350 hp is more realistic for a well built, non stroked, n/a 302.

Oh ok... well it was just seeming like a couple ppl were really like "uhh how the fsck did you get that much hp?" it seemed.. thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, we were questioning if it was wishful thinking. Or if true, how did he do it? :)

well edelbrock's bolt on package(heads, cam, intake,)claims 376 hp from a 302. with AFR heads, comp cam, & edelbrock rpm intake a 302 can make over 400 hp! parts?credit card! smile on your face? priceless!
