F/S:68 Mustang Coupe: 88,314 orig. miles, 1 owner

1968 MUSTANG 2 DOOR COUPE ONE OWNER, 88314 MILES:

1 owner car, have original sales receipt and paper work when purchased in 68! Have All manuals that are in Mint condition and all receipts! All brakes and wheel cylinders have been done along with a new master cylinder

7 months ago, been sitting since! Has 88314.4 Original miles, milage has never been around! 289 with 3 speed automatic on the floor, came stock with a 4 barrel, changed by the original dealership with a 2 barrel! Power steering/manual brakes! Repainted in 1972! Small dent behind passenger door (see picture) Very small! All emblems there in are Clean! Front & Back bumpers have some dents (See Pictures)! Car comes with the original hubcaps, there are boxed up! Has original radio! Everything works, Heater, wipers etc! All Glass is in Excellent condition, no cracks or breaks! All guages work! Car has Never Been wrecked!

Repair the rust, replace the front and rear bumpers,replace the sagging rear springs, properly repaint the car and you might get the money your asking. Looks like the drivers side door needs to be realigned as well...Most likely needs new bushings or hinges................

Pics 5 and 6 look like the bottom of 1/4's have had rust repairs at some point in time or have been dented... hard to tell for sure from a picture.

Im not into restoring the car, selling it as it is.... The only rust is on the passanger side door on the bottom..... Randy....

How do you come up with half of what were asking when you haven't even seen the car???? Are you that good to price a car by seeing a few pictures and not the actual car???? Ive had local CA mustang guys check it out and say the price is more then fair, im selling it for a friend of mine who's mother bought it new here in CA when we were in high school, I know the car very well, if you read the short decription of the car, you can see the car is not perfect, but it is in excellent shape for its age.. So if it don't sell, no big deal, just trying to help him out with selling it, im personally not a ford guy but I have alot of racing buddies who are and there cars run tremendous, I drive Big Block Chryslers. How many 68s do you see with this kind of milage for your price of, What $3400???????????????????? Give me a break....... Randy........

Easy. two words. "Rust" and "repaint". Easily $5,000 to do rust repair and repaint. If you can see it on the outside, how much are you not seeing? Rust is always like the tip of the iceberg, always alot hiding below the surface of what you see floating on top.

I know exactly what's on the inside of the door from that pic. And it's not going to be all that bad as rust goes.

The trick is killing the rust. Not much metal gets infected there. The trouble is in stopping it. It's gonna take sandpaper on stick with the whole inside panel off, a dremel attack and sanding from the outside. Geting as much POR15 in there as possible with foam on the end of a coat hanger. It looks small enough that a little fiberglass from the inside and some fill to level it off on the outside will patch it up good.

It's a nasty job to do because of the contortions needed to get to that front lower corner.

Of course the other option is just to cut the section out from the outside and weld in new metal.... but that would be beyond what I would try with my meger welding abilities, as I would either get bad welds or warp the doorskin. But I am sure someone with the skills could do it perfectly in his sleep.

But like it's been said, the big money is the repaint.

But Bill is right, fix the bumpers to get the most out of it. It's not like repro bumpers are that expensive. The bent up bumpers really detract from the car, and are easy to replace. Leaving the bumpers as is will really detract from the car. Given what Bill wrote, If I were interested I'd start at the $6800 number and start deducting for the time and effort and parts. I'd be generous and just consider the repaint of two-three panels (pass. door, one or both 1/4s) though if the paint was nice in person.

But given what I've seen of the mustang market, there will be someone who will buy it without knowing. Frick someone bought those frame rusted mustangs and other fords I see for sale that I wouldn't touch for the price being asked or anywhere close. I've seen the same red fairlane for sale around here 3 or 4 times over the last few years. Each time asking way too much. The funniest was the first with the exploded mufflers on it. Yeah... that's doesn't scream *PROBLEM* or anything ;)

Let's face it, here, we are far more objective on value vs actually quality of product offered. If your truly serious about selling the car, you need to view your competition out in the current marketplace and price your car accordingly. If your not realistic with your pricing, your going to be holding on to your car for a very long time. Just based on what I could see, your better off with a starting price of no higher than $4,800, and grab anything over $4,000 for the car. Even this is a little high, but I'm giving your car the benefit of the doubt in quite a few areas.............Lastly, I base my opinion on facts and actual sales, I remain unbiased, as I am neither the seller, nor the buyer, where in your case, your allowing your emotions to get in the way of better judgment........................

Just my continuing two cents worth on this subject.

Bill, I appricate your input, I have done some checking and compared prices, I haven't spent alot of time doing so, but ive checked out some of the classic mustang for sale sites..Yes even though some of the 68 mustangs listed on there with 100,000 or so original miles on them are $6,000 to $10,000 it doesn't mean that there selling them for those prices either, they might have been sitting on these cars for years, I don't know.... This is the first place here that I listed this mustang, so its not like ive been trying to sell it here for 2 years with no results, plus since this is my friends car, I have no attachment to it other then trying to help him out.... Ive had mustang guys here at the Good Guys Hot Rod Show in Pleasonton, CA actually See the car and say start around $6,000 to $8,000, so in the long run maybe you are right, Dave might only get $4,000 for the car I don't know, but after being in business for 35 years as I have, you NEVER start your price at the lower end of selling anything, So I guess you can say im testing the waters out there for what the actual value is, when selling something you can always drop the price when you list it on the higher end.... And as far as the rust, I will repeat it again, the rust is on the spot on the door only, floor pans are not rusted and there has been No other rust repair on the car in the past, so I hope I cleared that up for the person's who keeps repeating this, Ive been building Drag cars for 20 years from the ground up, I know alittle bit about cars, again Bill and to the others, I do appricate your input, I am opened minded and do listen to what people have to say, if I didn't I wouldn't be in the position I am in today, but when you get attacked with fixing the Whole car up, you can't help but get alittle defensive....No Big Deal, I guess when your in my position with doing the work I do, fixing any item you mentioned on this car is So minor to me, that its not even an issue, but for people that don't know how to turn a wrench I guess it would be a bit of an issue..
