Ford Responding To The Hemi

"Dodge is having spectacular success marketing the Hemi engine in a variety of models - and the success hasn't gone unnoticed at the competition. Ford, for one, is said to be developing a big new V-8 engine to outpower the Hemi, according to a report in the Detroit News. The News says that the engine will be based around a core version displacing 6.2 liters, larger than the competition from Dodge as well as Chevrolet and Nissan. Suppliers have begun to bid on work for the new engine, which according to the paper is known internally as the Hurricane. Ford says it's rolling out eleven new powertrains in the next few years as its financial turnaround gains steam."

So GM has the LS motor and DC has the Hemi for sale today, and Ford is just starting to take bids on their new motor. What's wrong with this picture? Unfortunately, this is the way it's been for many years. Ford always ends up playing catch-up.

Joe,

Ford is just finally starting to recover from the ex-BMW guy (I'm trying to forget his name). The money crunch is why the new engine designs were put on hold until now. But you're right... Ford has been chasing the other two in the horsepower wars for a while now.

Indeed. What's-his-name certainly didn't do Ford any favors in the long run.

In a nutshell, Ford needs to become proactive instead of being reactive. 2 more cents.
