Fox body Side Pipe Exhaust

Has anyone seen anything like this. I know they made them for the classic mustang and the current models. I sure would like to find a side exit exhaust system for a fox bodied mustang.

I'm also curious about side-pipe exhausts. I see over at

if you get their multi-link suspensionsystem, they say you have to go with a side-exhaust system. I believe I readsomething on there that hinted the side-exhausts tend to be less efficientthan rear exhaust. Is that because of the bends that are necessary?Something else? Does anyone know the real scoop? Thanks, Scott

Side exhaust will actually hurt performance with all the bends needed to fit cats on it. In a patched together, no cats (not smog legal) configuration it's quite allright actually....needs to be fitted by a muffler shop.

2 cents.

Ok I got the straight scoop from Steeda this morning. I was there buying a couple of items and asked about it. They have a system part # D40-13912 for a 99-03 GT & Cobra for $749.00. They claim a 2 RWHP gain over a Flowmaster cat back system on the same car. This is all stainless steel construction and looked really well built with great looking tips (4). I looked at it and any muffler shop could make it work with a fox bodied mustang. It would mean changing a few hanger points and perhaps a little longer hanger itself, other than that they should bolt right up.

Have you looked at a kit for a 94-95 car? I think the only real issue would be the cover. The muffler should be just fine since they are both 5.0s. The cover should fit, but it might take some work. They made the covers by were I use to live and a guy was always trying to sell me ones he smuggled out. He had a set on his 79. Not something I would do, but he did.

I have a Bassani side-exit system that I bought in '97 or '98. Stainless steel, so it is still in great shape. They still have side-exit systems on their website (

), but they didn't have much info or any pictures. I would order their catalog.

Also check out Magnaflo (

), Spin Tech Mufflers (

). Roush (

) lists several kits, but they are all "coming soon". These are just a few I found with a web search.

Hope this helps.

You can check out the Steeda at

also they say theywon't work with subframe connectors but we also discussed that and hence thelittle bit added to the hangers to clear the sub frames. In my case thatisn't too tough with the Kenny Brown but would be with some of the roundconnectors.
