Gonna buy first Mustang...

In about a month I'm gonna buy either a 99 GT or a 2000 GT. I know from doing research that these cars are basically the same, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask the experts. ;-) Is there anything in these years that I should watch out for? Common problems? What are the minor differences between the two years?

Thanks.

I think the differences between these years were primarily cosmetic, and even those weren't that great. The 99's had that big circle emblem where the GT is on later cars. I think 99 is when Ford went to the PI heads, also.

Yup... you've pretty much summed it up. The '99 cars were all badged with the 35th anniversary badges on the fenders. Some, if not all, '99 cars had special anniversary appointments.

The switch to the much better PI heads came about in '99, and there were no major differences at all between the two years.

FYI, the only Mustangs with any special appointments in 1999 were the 35th Anniversary Special Edition GT's. All other 1999 V6 and GT's had the 35th fender badges only.

Thanks Mike. I always wondered if you could get a '99GT without all of the extras. Not that I'm thinking of buying one...

Kinda like the 10th Anniversary Cobras. I like everything but the seats. The red doesn't bother me, it's the fact that the middles are not suede leather and, as such, much easier to slide out of in a turn. They remind me of the seats that I hate in my '97 Cobra.

Almost bought a 10th Anniv. snake, but I would have wanted the seats removed in exchange for the stock '03 Cobra seats even if I would have bought it.
