They'd be wonderful until they start leaking fluid. Could probably get a pair of rear hatch ones and modify the mounts, or create new ones.
Pretty good idea though. Much easier to work under there without that prop rod in the way, and without the annoyance of taking the hood off and getting it lined up when you're done.

I installed a pair of those my 92 GT a couple of years ago. A pretty simple install, maybe an hour or so. I don't miss the prop rod at all.

I've had a set for 4 or 5 years and they still work. Got them from, ehh Interactive Specialties or something, "The mass air specialists." I also got a rear view mirror from them with a compass and outside temp. and it auto dims. The auto dimmer works better than the one in my Infinity and the one in my moms Lexus.

I have wondered why Ford doesn't put these on the cars, the prop rod is a pain. The auto dimmer would be pretty doggone nice too.
