Help with TPS setting

Hi All,

Does anybody know the Throttle Position Sensor Voltage Setting for:

1991 Mustang 5.0 L and 1987 Mustang 2.3 L

Any help would be appreciated. Andrea

Trick question! Trick question! The voltage from the TPS on all EEC-IV systems (both your 87 and 91 Mustangs) will read anywhere between 0 to 5 volts depending on the throttle position. When closed, it should be close to zero, but wide open should be closer to 5. The reference voltage coming to it should be right at 5 volts.

May I recommend the very excellent book "Ford Fuel Injection and Electronic Engine Control" by Charles O. Probst, SAE. If you're planning on doing any serious troubleshooting on the EEC-IV system, this is the bomb. It does an excellent job of de-mysitfying the fuel-injected engine, and can really save you some serious aggravation/money on repairs.

Good luck!

Typically .98 volts works well.

Why do you assume he doesnt know the details..

I have a feeling YOU dont know the reason he's asking

I'm sorry, BM, were you speaking to me? Or is there a part of this thread that I'm not seeing? Please enlighten me.

No.. I was referring to his probably wanting to know how (what voltage) to adj a replacement TPS.

Perhaps he understands all but that.

I see. From your response I thought there was another more specific post regarding the problem. I was probably giving too much information. I didn't read enough into it. You'd be right in that I did make a couple of assumptions. The first one would be that "Andrea" is a female, but you're probably correct in thinking it's actually a male posting under that name, since women of course have no concept of the workings of automobiles. The second assumption would be that since he/she didn't actually ask what to adjust the TPS voltage to, I took it to be that they needed to know what range of voltages to look for, to determine if the TPS was bad. I had no idea they wanted information that anyone could pull off any internet site that googled up under a "mustang tps adjustment" search. The part about "Any help would be appreciated" REALLY threw me, too. I thought they were sincere. I just took the whole post at face value. Silly me.

Thankfully, your responses helped get them straightened out as to what they really needed to know. I'd hate to think we'd BOTH wasted unnecessary bandwidth. Let's just hope for both our sakes it isn't a supercharged engine; then we'd both look foolish.
