It still shakes.

The car still shakes starting at 45-50 mph. It is worse when I push the clutch in and coast. The vibration lessens almost to the point that it disappears. Okay, this is everything I have done so far.

New shocks New struts New rack and pinion New brakes New tires

I have been told to check the front u-joint as this is a common problem with the Mustangs and/or to check the driveshaft.

Need to know soon so that I can get it fixed before going to the track.

Thanks,

Don Manning

I was thinking driveshaft myself. I have a local driveline place that will rebalance them for $40. Throw in a couple of new U joints and its still not to bad. Of course the SVO aluminum driveshaft is around $150 (IIRC) so that is something to consider as well.

Replace the U-joints (pretty easy to do and cheap insurance).

As I told someone else with a transmission problem here not too long ago, I had a 2.3L 5-speed that the main shaft of the transmission wore oddly and had one or two nearly microscopic nicks in it where it contacted one of the bearings. Symptoms were kinda similar - neutral or clutch in at higher speeds made the whole car vibrate. The faster I was going, the worse it was, until one day at about 85 MPH I pulled the car into neutral and couldn't get it back into 5th with the clutch to the floor until the car slowed down to 55MPH.

I was also told that, considering the price of parts, it would be cheaper to just get a freshly rebuilt transmission, as that shaft cost something crazy.

Does the shifter shake like crazy? Does the shaking seem to originate from the transmission tunnel or the rear of the car?

Transmission, clutch, pressure plate, t/o bearing are all new as well.

More from the middle/rear. Like just past the tranny. That is why everyone is leaning towards u-joint/driveshaft.

Don - Does the AOD have a bearing in the extension housing like the C4's? I know this is the cause of my current vibration. I just hate taking that damn thing out for a second time.

Don't know for sure really. I still don't think it is coming from the front. I can tell that those areas are shake free. It is coming from middle/rear area.
