low coolant light

Hello,

I have a 99 Mustang GT 4.6L SOHC. I just drained and flushed my radiator yesterday. I let it run for a while afterwards just to make sure everything was ok, which it seemed to be. When I drove it this morning, after a while the low coolant light came on. There are no leaks anywhere so I do not see why it would be coming on. The coolant is still at the FULL line, yet the light still comes on. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Aaron

I've been trying to figure this one out also. So far what helped was to not fill it too high, (right in the low and high marks) and I used straight anti-freeze in the last few inches of topping off. What I can tell is the plastic "float" does not float very well. And make sure the tank is not bent downwards because that causes the float to stick too. So far my light has not come on for a couple of weeks now.

I had this happen recently, and it turned out to be the radiator cap not sealing properly.

Someone else mentioned in the other post about the float, might be worth it to change out both parts if possible and see if that makes a difference.

When you drained and refilled the cooling system, that created an air pocket. Runnig the engine forced the air out and when the engine cooled it was replaced by coolant from the overflow. Thus the low coolant light came on. Refill the overflow to the correct level and you should be OK.

Over time (months?), water in the overflow will evaporate and the low coolant light will come back on. Just refill it.
