Mustang 2.3 head bolt socket

IIRC its a 12-point 12mm socket. I am pretty sure its a 12 point, just not that sure on the size.

I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but don't you own a ruler?

First thing I tried but all we have is one of those old wooden ones graduated in 1/16". With this it seemed that the size was close to 15/32" which is very close to 12mm +/- .005 or so if my arithmetic does not fail me.

I do not want to take any chance of stripping the (12 point?) bolt heads so want to get a good quality socket the right size the first time. Personally, I do not agree with the wisdom of using 12 point bolt heads in this high torque application but like many things these days it may be an assembly compromise.

Hopefully the same socket fits all the head bolts unlike the intake where all were 10mm but one!!!

In any case, I think the first gentleman is correct but would you believe none of the local retailers had 12mm/12point 1/2 drive in stock. So now I have to wait another day.

This car only has about 70K miles and has been driven and maintained with respect and is also my first Ford. My other vehicles are mostly GM with one Renault (yes I said Renault) and have much higher use with less care. These are all running strong and reliable so I am having doubts about Ford quality. Having said that I have had a Town Car now for a few years and it seems OK but still does not seem to be a durability match to my big GMs.

I just picked a 12mm/12 point socket and it seems to small and my 14mm/12 point is too big so I guess I will get a 13mm /12 point and hope for the best. I could not get a 1/2" drive 12mm/ 12 point as the smallest in 1/2" drive was 13mm which probably should have been my clue to pick up a 13mm as well.

So I have to wait another day to see why #3 cyl is dead.
