please help

hi al, i have a 95 lincoln towncar, 4.6l. i am having starting problems, the car turned over, but doesn't start. about early january, i was coming back from a trip, going about 5 mph, the car stalled. i pulled over, checked all the fluids, everything was ok, i figured with it having 120, 000 miles on it, its time for a tune up. so i replaced the plugs, wires, both coils, air filter , oil filter, pcv. car runs great, but intermittently, i'll jump in, turn the key, and the starter whinnies, the fan blade spins, but doesn't start. after about 10 minutes, if that, it will fire right up. i noticed that it does this weather the engine is hot or cold. i even tried to bang on the bottom of the gas tank to see if its the fuel pump stuck or something but it doesn't seem to help any. i am really starting to believe that its the fuel pump, but not sure.. any and all assistance would be great. please keep in mind that this is my first "ford' product that i have bought, i don't know the tricks and secrets of the 4.6 yet.. thank you all in advance. ~bryan~ snipped-for-privacy@webtv.net

Next time it acts up on you pop the hood and look for the little valve on the fuel rail. It will look alot like the valve stem on your wheels and tires. Unscrew the black cap and press in the needle in the valve to see if you have any fuel pressure at that point. Be careful not to get fuel to spray into your eyes. If nothing come out then you would at least know you have a fuel problem and then you could go for there. The fuel rail is what all your injectors are under. If you see the fuel injectors then the fule rail is right above them and the valve I am talking about is on the rail. You cant miss it.

First - turn off the html for all your newsgroup stuff

how about the fuel filter?

are there any other symptoms... like stalling or high rpm at lights. stopsigns

DOes it act like it WANTS to start?

- When it wont start try cranking with pedal to floor, then if it doesnt react, try pumping pedal several times.

- If you hear the fuel pump cycle on Key-On then thumping the tank wont work.

If you DONT hear it, make sure you EVER hear it, then use a test light at the collision interlock and see if it gets 2 seconds of power at key-on

Last - post general systems probs like on alt.autos.ford though many of us read both

WHY do people buy Web-TV? That's off topic but just wondered.
