pricing on 05 GT's

Hey everyone,

I am looking for an 05 GT, but up where I am (Sacramento CA area) ALL the dealers have mark-ups around 10k dollars or so. I was in Folsom yesterday, and the markup on a V6 was 10K. (7,000 for 19 inch rims, and 3,000 dealer mark-up on top of this.) 30,000 for a 20,000 car. The GT's are worse. I was quoted 44k for a black GT. This is nuts. Is it like this everywhere else, or just here? I am going to be patient, and wait for the dealers to get thier heads out of their asses, but the wait is killing me.

BTW, I heard all sorts of good dealer lines, you know: they are limiting production, GT's are sold out for the next two years, etc... Idiots!

A month or so ago a dealer in Vancouver BC was advertising '05 GT's at $29,995 Canadian. (Approx. $23,800 US). Might pay to shop outside your area and have a nice trip to boot.

Well, that's california for ya. The dealers do that because they can, there's always some moron with more money - or credit - than sense.

I just checked the local dealer's website. They have a GT for 22153, and two at 26685. This is in Clearwater FL

That was a demo model. Coastal Ford in Burnaby, BC had one brand new last week for $32K CDN. I just saw a V6 at Richport for $26K CDN, Black convertible that has been at Metro Motors in Port Coquitlam for about 3 weeks and 3 Convertibles at another dealer. No shortage in BC ...

Pls allow an old fart to take a couple seconds to tell the youngers the way it used to be: my Dad was a "Ford Man".......over the years we had Fords, Mercury's....Lincolns...wouldn't think of anything else.......usually bought from the same dealership because we delt with the same salesman for 20+ years.......in fact, the salesman knew my Dad got a new car every 2 years and would call Dad: "Mr. _____.....we just got a new delivery and I happend to see this really sharp job that I think you'd really like.....want me to bring it out to your home tonight?" That's right, the salesman would bring the new car to the house........drive our car home then take it to work the next day and have it serviced. Also a very old sales trick: once the neighbors see you in the new car, its pretty hard to go back to the old one! It was a concept unknown today called Repeat Business.....they didn't want to sell you just 1 car....they wanted you to keep coming back.

Anyway, you came from a Ford family, or Chebie or MoPar family.....and that's why I've bought mostly Fords all my life, too. Over 10 of them so far.

And the point of this is: the Ford dealer is trying to screw me on a new 'stang.......I can have my choice of ordering an "06 with no idea when it will come......or I can pay $5000 over sticker on one that shows up now.

Or I can stop being a Ford guy. The day's of customer......dealer.....and salesman loyalty are long gone. The dealership could care less if they ever see me again as long as they get top dollar on a car now. THe salesman I deal with won't be there 6 months from now. And I - who have never had a foreign car - am wishing there were more rear drive rice grinders to chose from......in fact, I've been treated like such a piece of dirt, I'm really motivated to never darken their doorstep again.

If I can, let me make a suggestion. Before writing off Ford altogether, try one or two more dealerships. Just because one dealership is screwing around with you doesn't mean that they all will. But I do agree with you on one thing. This particular dealership is counting on you wanting the car so much that you'll give in just to get it. I plan to start looking this fall (probably). I'm trying to prepare myself for this situation. I really want a new Mustang ('05 or '06), but I don't intend to overpay to get it.

I am not giving up on Ford, I just know I have to be (very) patient about it. I'll probably end up having to order one, since the legend lime metallic (or whatever it is called) does not seem to be popular at all, and I love it. Just tired of waiting :)

Try waiting a year for a used one that someone defaulted on.

Hell the used ones in the market in my area are selling for 3 to 5K over new sticker. I have no idea what the dealers are ripping off new buyers with "Adjusted Market Price" stickers. There is actually one dealership here that pulls that shit on Kia's.

I've been to 5 dealers so far......this isn't just a question of limited supply right now - they have an allocation for the year and there just aren't going to be enough to go around.....especially GT converts. The BEST offer I've gotton is they will ALLOW me to order an "06 at full sticker: price unknown, delivery date unknown.

I'm in a small town of 20,000.......so far there are 3 GT converts and about 5 6's running around.....I can only guess what they paid for them.

As far as finding a used one: the only hope would be to source off-lease factory "executive" cars...in 6 months or a year....and there won't be many of them.

You've got 5 Ford Dealers in a town of 20,000?? WOW.

Check further afield.

naw.....1 in my town, another in the same county...went to 1 in a bigger town 30 miles away.....also the biggest dealers in Cleveland and Columbus OH...........also checked with the dealer my company buys fleets from.....in Kansas City.

That's as much as I'm gonna do......will just wait till they get real.....I need the money more than the dealership owners, so it's in a CD now!
