No, I believe we went to the moon but I also believe they are holding back info and some of the pics were contrived.

So what makes you think they are right this time? In 30 years we might be looking back going "What were we thinking?" and predicting global cooling again. I realize knowledge is gained and we are supposed to be more correct each time but science has gotten away from its roots of learning and gone way too political. Have to have the right answers/opinions to get grants, funding, etc.

Fair enough. The theory is not without detractors. Personally, I'm not buying any beachfront property.

30-years ago... No, _those_ "f----- idiots" are either dead or retired.

Science evolves. 30 years ago, or so, most of us drove behind steel, thinly padded dashboards, hard skinny steering wheels, we didn't wear seat our seat belts and then when the tank was running low we filled up on leaded gas.

The science of global climate change is in its infancy. They can't predict the path of a hurricane but they can tell us the temperature in

100 years? They are keying on just a few of the multitudes of items that effect weather on a global scale. IMO, there are many other things that effect weather that we know nothing about or even know that they exist. In reality they have now idea what is causing warming or even if the current trend is long term or short term. We are currently in a cooling trend the last few years so are we in a global cooling trend? One question I would like to have answered is why Mars is warming right along with the Earth. If the Sun, orbital path and/or tilt of the Earth is the cause we may as well buckle up for the ride because can't stop it. Money is the drive behind most of what we hear from both sides. I bet you a graph of Al Gore's income is rising faster than any temperature chart. He now makes enough to pay a $20k/month electric bills. That is mighty green of him to use that much electricity. Is there anyone that thinks he isn't in this global warming crusade for the money first and foremost?

There are some people on the planet that looks forward to global warming. Russia will have a huge swath of Siberia become productive and habitable. As with any climate change there are winners and losers. There are whole cities (i.e. Alexandria in Egypt) that are below sea level now. Change is the natural course of things. If you want to see the human race take a big hit then let an ice age begin. We will wish for the good old days of global warming. Heck, one day all the continents will be smashed into one. Shouldn't we be stopping that too?

As I have said before here, mankind is one arrogant mammal. We think this world is under our control and influence. That is far from the truth. The Earth has taken hits far bigger than we could ever deliver and shrugged it off. The only thing we will succeed in accomplishing is our own demise. Every species on this planet will be extinct one day and something else will replace them. I don't see where we will buck the trend forever. As for global warming, I think our money is better spent in mitigation than prevention. Mankind has been mitigating climate change for all our existence. Now for some reason we think we can prevent it.

Man has a habit of putting more importance on himself than he deserves, IMO. I find it interesting that an attempt to control the global climate is screwing with Mother Nature's processes on a scale that is unattainable and unwise and goes against nearly everything the environmentalists have been preaching to us the past 100 years (i.e. don't screw with nature).

The planet has built-in processes to handle fluctuating levels of all types of gases. If CO2 gets too high then more plant life flourishes on land and the oceans to consume it. If less is available then there is less plant life. I'm sure there have been times when volcanic activity has unleashed CO2 at rates that dwarf what mankind is producing today. The planet adjusted and survived it. If it didn't have this capability then life would not have existed here for over three billion years. I'll start worrying when the O2 levels drop substantially.

Bingo. Thanks for a good post, Michael. You are absolutely right - it's absurd for mankind to think that we are mightier than nature. We are but a speck in the entire picture, and the planet will long outlive whatever we do.
