U.S. Gov assumes responsibility for GM, Chrysler warranty repairs

Judging by past (non)responses to my posts on the Detroit bailout, no one in this group seems to be paying much attention to the on-going voyage of this ship of fools adventure. But this is the latest, that Pres. Oprompter included in his stern (but finger-wag free) announcement re GM and Chrysler today, the promise that prospective buyers of GM or Mopar products need not worry about their warranty rights: Uncle Sam is now standing behind them, come what may.

Remember, this is supposed to be reassuring news to those prospective customers. The President actually said this, that this promise makes your warranty better than ever!!! Do we need any further evidence that this president is blindly devoted to the wonders of State Socialism?

Now I'm reeeally worried.

I was watching the Obomination this morning and started thinking...This looks kind of like Germany's 1930s National Socialists who blamed the Jews for their economical problems, only now it's Capitalism getting the gas.

Capitalism would seem to dictate that both GM and Chrysler would today be going through the throes of bankruptcy and death. With both of them no longer in existence, what warranty?

HOPE! Change we can believe in. ;)

It reminds me of 1930s Germany as well, it's a further expression of fascism in the US. That is the merger of government and business.

I think if there were real free market capitalism in the US GM and Chrysler wouldn't have become dependent on SUV sales (no CAFE regulation). If it wasn't for interventionist foreign policy I think fuel would have been more expensive years and years ago as well.

The government is just reaching deeper into the auto industry, but the tendrils have been in there for decades already. It's just conjecture what the free market situation would have looked like today.

I don't think that under bankruptcy GM would go away along with all the warranties. What does seem to be going away are all of our tax dollars.

Even there were, TARP itself is fundamentally illegal. The entire monetary system is unconstitutional.

It's just extending the moral hazards that helped create the housing bubble in the first place. (FDIC covering depositors allowing banks to become reckless and fannie and freddie buying high risk mortgages because everyone knew (although it was not stated) the government would stand behind fannie and freddie.

Wow! No universal health care but they'll fix your car. Reminds me of Britain in the 1800s when they had an animal protection society but no child welfare laws. SKEWED!!!!!
