I'm looking at the WRX's right now, trying to find a good deal. I too drove and looked at a STi, but I can't handle that spoiler or tall hoodscoop. Other than that, it's a awesome car to drive.

Have you drove a regular 227hp WRX with a 5-speed? Sporty interior, fast and you feel very in control of it with the AWD. Most people report 20+ city mpg and around 30 mpg on the open highway. I'm looking into one as a commuter car. I already got my Mustang :)

No, I just purchased a 2004 F-150 4x4 Lariat pickup.

My other vehicle is a 1994 Corvette so I decided that I wanted a new truck instead of a new car.

They could use it.... They can't get their new Strike Fighter to fly.

Jim, I'm 49... I know of those designers also. I even built several of those models in my youth. But those were not cars for the masses. Not that this car was, but the root design is one that many teenagers with a great deal of imagination, a part time job, and alot of fiberglass & resin can put together.

My daughter subscribes to a bunch of the import tuner magazines and forces me to watch those tuner shows on Spike TV before the more important HP TV & Trucks come on. Alot of those cars are built by regular kids....not just the ones with deep pocket daddies.

Take a look around sometime at the American car scene. There hasn't been more than a small handful of revolutionary designs in the past 20 years. So much for American f#cking Iron! Everything has been a slight and generally anemic evolution of the prior model.

I wouldn't own one of these cars, I won't even drive my daughters, but I wouldn't drive the Monkey Mobile either. Try going to one of "those" import car shows sometime... you won't find any pop rivets, but Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, or Jefferson Airplane would sound awsome on one of those "systems".

I do apologize for using the term "snob". While I do hold tradition in high esteem. I don't hold it as high as I do innovation. The danger of placing tradition on some sacrosanct pedestal, is that it destroys the obvious genius that created the original. Case in point...Camaro/Firebird and probably Mustang without the 2005 redesign, which could still backfire.

I appaude another "old guy" that isn't afraid of customizing. Lets just make some room for the younger generation and allow them their "Beatnik Bandits", "Bat Mobiles", and modern day Woody's...along with whatever other personally offensive designs that they might give life to.

Have a great day!

Yea, he did SOMETHING. Somewhere in that something how about some class?? Even a TINY bit of class would be appreciated. Its just a rolling collection of "goodies" but not one stinking bit of goodness. YUK!

First of all I am not putting down the whole import tuning community. I was commenting strictly on this particular example of hideousness.

Even IF its craftsmanship is extraordinary, there is a LOT more to building something than craftsmanship if it's to be beautiful or inspiring. This particular "something" inspired me in only one way.. to look away in revulsion.

As for old school vs new school, it is my fervent hope that beauty and aesthetics are not "old school".

Exactly. I saw nothing (other than a NAWSSS bottle in the hatch) that even promoted that the car was faster than a Geo Metro. Sure, there's visuals, and it sure does look like it's going 100MPH just sitting there, but.... all show and no go gets you laughed at in some circles. I guess the superficial females that think you have a ton of money to put plastic on your car might like you more, but eh... whatever they like I suppose.

Ahh, Kate...

We've been through this before.

I specified the superficial women. There are real ones. I'm still happily with mine. She's incredible, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

But most of the ones I meet would take form over function any day of the week, in more ways than just cars.

LOL JS... "in more ways than just cars".. it's funny b/c it's true. And Kate... I don't think he meant anything towards you at all.. damn near everybody on this NG knows who you are & knows you aren't some shallow, easily fooled/persuaded woman.

Yeah, Kate and I discussed that some time ago, same exact scenario when I was talking about ricers and the kinds of girls that seem to hover over those cars, at least in my area.

It was in no way meant to mean that all girls are that way, but it took me a long time to find one around here that wasn't that way, and I'ma do everything I can to hold on to that one. I've had my share of bad ones... so I know how bad things can be and can recognize a good thing. I can also recognize a bad thing... and there's a whole lot more of 'em it seems.

It wasn't a shot at females in general... I'm not that kinda guy. Kate's a good woman, and Dick's lucky to have her around. In fact, every lady that's posted here (in the short time I've been in the group... I've heard stories of past tho) has been just that, a lady. I have the utmost respect for ladies... I hold doors, open car doors, never call them derrogatory names (even when I'm not talking to one). I refuse to refer to a female as a bitch save for *one* ex-girlfriend who spent 9 months making sure I was as miserable as I could be despite my efforts to try to make her happy. My girl gets precedence over everything... my toys, most of my family (save for my mom), my friends (though she's cool with hanging out with them too), and even my job. I'll leave in a heartbeat if she really needs me. I've gone in late just so that she had everything she needed for her day at school when I coulda just left. I've driven 50 miles round trip just to say hi for

10 minutes. She's smart, she isn't afraid of making a decision, supports me in whatever I choose to do, doesn't complain when I drive too fast, and she likes me for who I am. All that and quite beautiful as well, though she doesn't seem to think so. I think at last count she had a 9.6 on hot-or-not... just confirming what I tell her all the time.. but she still doesn't believe it. Modesty bordering on denial... lol.

But anyway, I've dealt with a lot of them that weren't worth the 5 minutes it took me to realize that all they wanted was either money or a good looking guy to stand next to them, personality not required. Then there are the ones that try to give it away like the world's gonna end. No thanks...
