vinyl roof on 1968 mustang

Hello, i have a 1968 mustang coupe with a vinyl roof. I had to remove the old vinyl to fix some rust underneath. now i want to put it back on and am wondering about the drip rails along the side of the car. Do they need to be removed to install the vinyl? If so, are the just rivited or are they brazed or welded? If i take them off can i re-use the old ones? If they are brazed or welded on, can i rivet new ones on, or vise-versa? Can i take the easy way out and just leave em' on and use lost aof glue and a bit of clear caulk?

on the original factory tops there was a thin stripe of metal that held the vinyl into the drip trough. many dealer installed tops did not have this thin strip but relied on just glue or someother :homemade" strip as a retainer. do not remove the drip rails and do not wrap the top around them and try to install the moldings the vinyl should end in the trough.
