Weird Shifting problem after installing a Tri-Ax shifter ??

I just installed a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter into my 89 5.0 Mustang today.

I installed it per Steeda's Instruction sheet. Set the Stop Bolts correctly etc...

When I try to shift from 1-2 or 3-4 while accelerating, the tranny wants to downshift back into 1st gear!

If I shift while driving easy, all the gears engage just fine.

(FYI, the transmission was working just fine with the OEM crappy shifter.)

What could be going on here ??

The steeda shifter has a spring that returns it to netural, is that what is happening or is it actually moving the handle into first? Or is it shifting into first, but the handle isn't moving?

I say take it apart and look, reinstall. maybe something just isn't quite right. take it apart and put it together theory may do the trick.

I too would take it apart & put it back on... may discover something you didn't the first time around. Good luck, bud.

I "just found out that it's ONE NUMBER different !!

Tri-Ax Billet Shifter for T-5 & T-45 555-7353 $161.90 Tri-Ax Billet Shifter for TR-3650...555-7363 $161.90

I could have SWORN I double checked the DAMN #'s before I bought it.

Also, the Ebay ad was WRONG!! It said is was for a T-45 (basically SAME as my T-5) tranny. Turns out it's for a Tremac 3650 !! :dunce:

Well !! Anyone want to buy a Steeda Tri-Ax for a Tremac 3650 ??

I got it used off Ebay for a great price. I'm just gonna resell it and get the right shifter for a T5.

So what is the difference between the T5 and the Tremac 3650 transmissions ??

I wonder if this shifter can be adapted to work in my T-5 ??
