What Is Your Favorite Automotive TV Show?

Though not a show aimed directly at the enthusiast, I have always enjoyed watching PBS's Motorweek. Recently, I've been trying to catch The History Channel's AutoManiac. I like it... it's a pretty good show. Has anyone else been tuning in?

There's nothing really good on anymore, I miss Thursday Night Thunder. :( Well, maybe just Wind tunnel.

Not much on broadcast except for Motorweek and a few odds-'n'-ends. No way I'm paying $50/month for cable or more for satellite.

You know, even though I couldn't car less about trucks, I really like Trucks! every Sat and Sun at about 1:30 p.m. on Spike. It's because of Stacy David, the host, and also because of the absence of any other host that he has to engage in stupid scripted banter. The show is all Stacy, and this guy knows evvvverything about engines, chassis, fabrication, painting, you name it. He also rocks on the electric guitar.

Everything else is second best or worse. Overhaulin' is getting boring. American Hot Rod is ridiculous; I think I'm only watching for the inevitable episode where one of Boyd's "family" is going to plant a big ol one inch spanner right in the middle of his ol bald head. Car & Driver is good but repetitious of the mag. Horsepower TV is OK for what it is, an informercial in disguise. I don't get Speed, so I don't know about Hot Rod TV or anything else. That old Popular Hot Rodding TV was pretty awful though.

American Muscle Car. Dream Car Garage. That mutant who Sandra Bullock married, the guy who makes rolling juke boxes, the crazies who make the bikes on American Chopper, they can all evaporate, IMO.

I don't watch very much broadcast TV anymore, but my current favorite automotive "show" is Speed's coverage of my current favorite automotive sport: the FIA World Rally Championship. The runner up is My Classic Car.

As for bike shows, I enjoy the occasional American Chopper. :)

I don't really watch any of them, but I'm going to have to start watching SuperTuners.

Tooling down the highway yesterday, I was overtaken and passed by a mini-train of three super Honda Civics, each with those impressive exhaust system enhancements. They passed, sounding like someone had just stirred up a hornet's nest. Wow.

If only my own car made such a wonderful sound.

No shit. I wish he, along with his garage, was my next door neighbor.

Some of the auto repair/customization shows on Speed Channel. Although their primary purpose is advertising the products they demonstrate, I have learned a lot of tips and tricks. Spike

Definately TOP GEAR LOL

British show, last episode i saw pitted an EvoVIII against a Mercialago (spelling) and for all intensive purposes win (the guy driving the merci was a pro, but he spun out at the end, which was the test: WHo could circle longest while trying to see if the Evo could keep up with the merci).

But my FAVORITE segment is where they proved that Toyota pickups are practically indestructible. They put it through a battery of tests, incliding:

1: narrow streets (hitting corner) (scraping damage) 2: Dropping a small Camper trailer on top of it from about 10 feet (no damage) 3: drowning it (put it out to a tide point and watched it drown) (engine needed some Wd-40 but otherwise started running again, the tide pushed out the windscreen) 4: ramming it though a shed type building (No damage) 5: Insert ne here (something that damaged the front end a little but still very drivable) 6: Dropping it (IIRC) 7: Lighting it on fire (yes it still drove and survived).

All they ever replaced was the windscreen after the tide (that was protection for the driver so when they ran it through buildings, it wouldnt harm him)

Overall, iw ould say the damned things are like a tank :-)

But that was a very interesting show for interesting car tests.

For actual normal car tests? Motor Trend and Motor Week

You're telling me. If this shop really operates the way it's portrayed on this show, who the hell would ever bring them a car to restore? I have to think it's all drama and hype. I'd like to jam a crescent wrench up Duane's a$$. But then, that's they way they want me to feel, isn't it? ;)

If you ever see either of those, I hope like hell you have it recorded.
