there is a step with picture that says

  1.    Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect spring lock couplings. A special tool is required for this.

Can anyone illuminate me as to what this tool is and where I would buy one (or how I could get around buying one).

Thanks,

John

It's a little plastic ring that you slip in between the spring and the coupling. It can be bought at most auto-parts stores at a minimal price point. You'll buy a set of different sizes, two of which you will need for the fuel system. You can also buy a gizmo that claims to adjust to fit all sizes. I couldn't get it to work very well.

Buy the tool, there is no sense in screwing up your couplings for the want of two dollars

KD makes a nice one, so does MAC and Snap On Tools. NAPA and Car Quest can certainly get these tools. Min looks kind of like a pair of pliers. Works well.

The cheap plastic ones work fine. The secret is to use the one that looks like its a size too big. It will work perfectly.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am going to copy the picture and take it to the Napa Store.

On further reflection. What is the name of the tool? Is there a picture or part number anywhere?

Oh, yeah, I got the Helm Inc. manual yesterday, I need to look in there.

I guess I could always use a dead blow mallet, or Ball joint separator, they seem to fix everything.
