1992 Hardbody starter removal

What is the easiest way to remove the starter on a '92 2WD Hardbody with a 4 cyl. engine? I attempted it several months ago and finally took it to a local repair shop. It is once again failing to start. I don't know if it is the solenoid or the motor, but when I try to start it, it will click, but the engine will only turn over about 10% of the time.

Check and make sure the starter heat shield is in place. That is a common problem with the Nissans.
