94'Sentra, Is a inner tie rod tool a must???

94' Sentra XE 1.6 Auto w/ bent Inner Tie Rod (ITR) driver side. I read on sentra.net that a adjustable wrench will work but not for me. Both monkey wrench (adjustable spanner) and channel locks don't seem to work for me. PepBoys and Autozone have loaner ITR tools but could not claim it would work for my specific need. The tool claims to work on all 3/16 and 5/8 ITR. Do I need a nissan's specific tool or does the generic one work. Or is it my cheap 10" channel locks.

Also the ITR tool has to slip down the ITR to the connection with the rack. My ITR is bent and probably to much for the tool to align correctly. Can my cheap torch that sweats copper fittings get the ITR hot enough to bend it straight? Then if I straighten the ITR would I be pressing my luck to drive it that way? Of course after an alignment.

Thanks in advance, jeff 94' 98' 02' Sentras
