Anyone wanna buy a Nissan Titan?

Six months or so ago, I read a post here where a guy was disgusted with his Titan. I first thought that perhaps he was drunk or on drugs...whatever, but could not come to grips that he was disgruntled about having to wait a month for his Nissan Dealership to get in the front brake pads for his warranty repair. Trust me, he was on target! I waited a month as well. I have another problem, and it is with the paint! My passenger door is a different color than the King-Cab door...really! I have taken it to the Dealership twice...they agree it is a different color, then they made me take it to another dealership so they could in-fact testify it was a different color and then I had to take it back to the dealership so they could take pictures of it...and now I am waiting...so far, a total of about 8-weeks since first making my concerns known. How can a brand-spanking new truck (or any vehicle for that matter) have different colored body panels, unelss of course somewhere along the distribution chain a "uh oh" happened and a fix was attempted. I paid over $33k for a two-tone truck...can tell you one thing for certain, I shoulda bought a Toyota...or a Chevy...I am regretting this every time I make a lousy payment!

If you want additional info or pics, just let me know and I will gladly send...and if the response is too much for me to handle, I guess I could put the pics out on a web site someplace, like

I'm sorry to hear about the paint problems, even more sorry to hear about the bad dealerships poor service with you. I can honestly say the dealership I work at is much better at taking care of problems like that. We had a girl by a Titan, one day after taking delivery, she smashed a fender on one of the pole we have guarding a power transformer. We got the truck into our body shop first thing monday (she damaged it late saturday), fixed it up at no charge (even with it being her driver error), had her back in it before that wednesday. Did you check to see if your dealership had a specialized Dealer Body ship?

I recently took delivery of a new Titan. So far no problems, but I expect to have a few over the years. When they happen I'll work with Nissan to get them resolved. IMO you could do a lot worse with other makes.

Having said all that there are dealers with service managers lacking in the proper attitude and with techs lacking the required skills and ethics. There seem to be plenty of Nissan dealers unless you live in Fargo, ND or similar. In your situation I would shop around for a dealer more in tune with customer needs.

If one of your doors is not color matched to the rest of your truck Nissan needs to take care of that, and, IMO, will do so although it may take a little time to make it happen. I'm a little surprised you didn't notice the problem before buying the truck??? Perhaps it was an overcast day? Or maybe, like me, you were so excited by your new truck you just didn't notice until later. I failed to notice two surface scratches on my silver truck until I waxed it. I'll just rub them out by hand rather than let the dealer do it with a buffer.

Club Titan and Titan Talk on the web would both be good forums to discuss your issue, plus there is a great wealth of other owner information you'd probably enjoy.

Good luck.

I bought a Titan in August with 67 miles on it. When I drove it home that night the passenger window was out of track and would not roll up. When it finally did roll up the glass was scratched. The next day we noticed that paint on the grill was chipped, cloth on the back of the passenger seat was coming apart at the seams, there were numerous scratches in the paint all over the truck, and the plastic piece around the tailgate handle was coming apart. This was right off the Dealer's lot! Also, the FM radio gets terrible reception. Local station fade in and out.

It's been back to the Dealer twice to correct these problems. In the first month I owned it, it spent two weeks on my driveway and two weeks at the Dealer. Not a fun buying experience! Finally, the parts needed to fix the rest of the problems are in and I need to bring it back to the Dealer. When I called to make an appointment I asked for a rental car. The knucklehead gave me the standard, "We don't give rentals for warranty work"; though on the last two times at the Dealer gave me a rental.

At this point I'm am so frustrated with Nissan and this truck that I would give it back if I could. This is such Bullshit!

Off topic, at the time I bought the Truck, my wife's 2000 Xterra was at the Dealer for maintenance and a Smog check. I was told the vehicle didn't pass Smog and that it would be an additional $200 on top of the $600 I was already spending on service for it to pass smog. This was regardless of the fact that I was in the process of spending $30+ K on a new truck there! I told them to shove it and two weeks later I took the Xterra to a local Smog station and it passed without a problem! I'm not a mechanic, but this doesn't seem right!

I've researched the Lemon Law in my state and am looking forward to applying it to this truck when the time comes. From all the frustration I've had with the Titan(ic) and the smog issue on the Xterra, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN!

I wrote a letter to Nissan's Consumer Affairs telling them my story and how upsetting it has been. They have not, to date, had the common courtesy of sending me a reply!

I don't mean to fuel your fire, but first-year vehicles typically have more problems/issues than other vehicles that have been produced for a while. At a forum I frequent, other Titan owners have had small problems like you, too, but pretty much, they are overwhelmingly happy with the truck...

I realize that 1st year vehicles usually have problems. We bought the 1st year Xterra and realized that it was under-powered. The next year they offered a supercharged engine.

I guess my frustration lies in the overall experience of buying a new car and having all those things wrong, compounded by the problems I had with the Smog test on the Xterra. Buying a new car should be a nice experience. This was not the case for me.

I would be interested in visiting the other board you reference. What's it called?

Too bad they don't have beta testing for automobiles. Maybe they do, but unlike software companies, they sell the final product and let the buyers find the bugs. I've bought a few new 'Beta' marque vehicles. A

1961 Ford Falcon Futura, a 1970 Ford Maverick, a 1975 Ford Elite, and a 1984 Plymouth Voyager (first of the Mini Vans). All were first year models, but they were basically just body changes from previous extensively consumer tested platforms.

where there's a "Titan" forum, and a lot of those posters also go over to Titan Talk. You should check them out; there's one guy that had some problems with his Titan, and most, if not all, of them were taken care of.

A recent issue of Business Week had an article about Carlos Ghosn (Nissan's CEO installed by Renault). One of his recent missions was to personally intervene at the new factory in the US (Canton, Mississippi) where the Titans, Armadas and Quests are made because of all the problems.

It was found that the paint scratches were (are?) being caused by the assembly line workers' studded jeans and jewelry! The other assembly quality problems are attributed to startup pains at the place because it is in an area where there has never been a car factory before. Supposedly, Nissan is fixing it all with teams sent in from the older US plant in Smyrna, Tennessee and teams sent directly from Japan, but what a pain for the unlucky people who bought the first stuff off that line.

Sounds like there's too many moolies & hillbillies working on that assembly line! ROFL
