Battery light and Brake light turns on

Hi all,

I recently bumped the front of my car(Nissan Sentra '95)but the body shop guy I showed it to said that it was just cosmetic damage, no mechanical damage.

However two of the two wires from the alternator had their insulationg stripped off and one of them came loose, from contact with the radiator fan. The wires were spliced and reconnected, but the battery light and the brake light comes on when I start the car.

I checked the fuses but they seemed okay. I suspected the alternator and a friend of mine told me to start the car and disconnect the battery, if it runs fine the alternator is okay. This worked fine.......but is this a rigorous test for the alternator?

Is there any better way that I can troubleshoot or any ideas as to what the problem might be ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Santana

don't believe what your friend said about unhooking the battery to test if an alternator is good.

The alternator is bad in you can and needs to be replaced

don't go with aftermarket parts, go to the dealer and get one, otherwise you will be changing it out again in a few months
