99 Altima, and using 5W-30 Mobil1 synthetic oil. Mostly city driving, how long can I go on without changing the oil? Does 6000 miles sound reasonable?thanks

For the oil, yes. Not for the filter. Change the filter at 3K.
Be aware that there may be warranty coverage issues on the power train warranty - even though you and I know it's OK.

then how can BMWs can go abour 13-15k with changes. is a bmw engine built differently?
So your saying that no oil comes out when you remove a filter? I didn't know oil pans were that big now.
With every vehicle I am familiar with in over 40 years of fooling with them, it is possible to change the oil filter or filter element without draining the oil sump. What vehicle are you thinking of?

Ted, the only oil that comes out of the engine when you change the filter alone is the oil that was in the filter, not all the oil in the sump. Depending on the size of the filter, you may have to replenish with about a pint of oil to make up for what was in the filter.
I change mine and filter every 4K. 50 bucks to have the drive through do it is little expense considering your engine will last hundreds of thousands of miles.
Well I have a 2001 sentra, I use 5w-30 Mobile 1 Synthci Oil also. Longest I have been on the oil without a change is 11,500. But I Usually change ever
7,500 or so. Notice no difference in performance or fuel economy when pushed over the 10,000 mark. I usual average 6-8k a month. Currently have 88,000 plus now. Still runs like new.
