Manual Question For Niss Tech?

I just received the 1995 Nissan D21 Pickup Service Manual I ordered from Nissan Publications ($75) today, and I'm a bit disappointed.

On the front cover is the following information:

NISSAN Truck & Pathfinder SERVICE MANUAL

1994 Supplement This Service Manual Supplement contains all wiring diagrams and harness layout, revised or not, for the 1994 TRUCK & PATHFINDER, model D21 series. Information for the U.S.A. produced TRUCK is also included.

1995 This Service Manual contains all wiring diagrams and harness layouts, and the new service procedures, service data and specifications for the 1995 TRUCK & PATHFINDER, model D21 series.

On the back it indicates it is Publication No. SM5E-D21SUO.

The reason for my disappointment is due to the manual only containing mostly technical information regarding trouble codes troubleshooting, wiring diagrams, harness & connector layouts, any very little in the area of disassembly - repair - assembly information. I guess I am used to manuals from other makes, and the detailed service information on even the small subassemblies such as wheel bearings/brakes etc.

Don't get me wrong, the information it does contain would be very valuable to diagnose and pinpoint issues (especially electrical), but I would really like to have the other information as well.

I suspect the Service Manual I have might be one of a multiple set, or possibly there is a Repair, or other titled manual I'm missing.

Niss Tech, could you or another knowledgeable person shed light on my dilemma, and indicate the manual/s I might be missing?

Thank you.

That's strange, normally the factory manuals are very descriptive of repair procedures etc like you were expecting and go into detail on the theory of operation etc. Sounds like they ordered the wrong manual for you? I've never seen one like you're describing.

After reading your reply I called one of the local Nissan Dealers, and asked to speak with one of the mechanics that would be assigned to work on a 1995 pickup. The next part kind of surprised and pleased me. He seemed eager to help me, and indicated that if my truck needed repairs that I wasn't comfortable doing, to consider bringing it to their shop. What a refreshing approach.

The mechanic indicated what I had was a 1994 supplement and 1995 wiring diagrams/NEW procedures manual. Nissan Publications neglected to send me the

1994 Service Manual which contains the service procedures for the 1994 which are the same for the 1995 model. Since most are the same as the 1995 model they aren't included in the 1995 Service Manual. This makes sense as the packing list indicates a three part manual.

Thank you for the hint/tip that led me to an answer.

What you are missing is publication number SM4E-0D21U0. It's about two inches thick.

troubleshooting,

Thank you for the exact manual number. I will call Nissan Publications tomorrow and see if they will send me the manual they failed to include in the first order.

troubleshooting,

Chuck:

Just out of curiosity how did you find/know the number of the manual I'm missing? Judging from your web site it would appear that you don't work as a mechanic. Do you own a '94 or '95 Nissan Pickup?

Is there a fruitful portion of the Nissan Web Site I haven't discovered yet?

Thank you.

I'm on my third Pathfinder, an '01.5 3.5L SE. Before that, I had a '95 SE, and an '87 SE before that. I always get the factory service manual for every vehicle. Not that I needed them much for the Pathpuppys -- the only thing that went wrong on the '95 in 130K miles was a burned out light bulb. The '87 had a couple of burned out bulbs (one of which was a bear). '01 hasn't had anything since it went off warrantee.

So I went down to the garage, and found the manual for the '95 and read the number off the back. It covers both PF and PU.
