Pathy rear shoulder belts?

Can someone tell me when they came with rear shoulder belts? I Googled it and found that they were required starting 9/1/91 for light trucks and vans, and 12/11/89 for passenger cars. I'm considering looking for a '92-ish Pathfinder, and I want to be sure that my kids are as safe as possible in it.

Thanks. Aaron '87 528e '88 MR2 NA '70 Beetle project

You want safe kids, don't buy a pathfinder.

I know it's not the safest vehicle in the world, but it looks like it's about the best thing available for the money that will do what I need - tow a boat and allow the family to ride along (can't do that in my old F150), and get me to work when there's snow and my Mister2 won't make it. We are the unfortunate owners of a '98 grand voyager that we use to haul the kids around on a regular basis. If funds were unlimited, I wouldn't have asked the question.

So, to get back to my question, when did they start installing rear shoulder belts in Pathfinders?

That's the plan...the Pathfinder is intended to replace 2 of them. The Beetle costs nothing until I start to restore it. If you've ever driven an MR2, you'll understand why I have to keep it. If you haven't, you should do yourself a huge favor and test drive one, just for fun. Mine is worth almost nothing financially anyway, so it wouldn't put me anywhere near a new car.

There seem to be two pretty distinct schools of thought regarding car buying. The first is the people like me who tend to buy older vehicles and own them. If you're smart about that, you'll be pretty picky about which ones you buy so they don't make you go broke. The second is people who tend to buy new or newer cars and finance them. Our van falls into that category, but we feel buying it was a mistake and we should have stuck with something older from someone more reliable.

This is why I'm looking at older Pathfinders, and even selling four vehicles would get me just enough cash to buy about a '95 at best, and that doesn't begin to explain how I would get around until I located the Pathfinder that I bought. It's just not a practical proposition. I'll keep my fun cars and enjoy them, and I'll continue to look for a '91-'92ish Pathfinder. Believe me, I'm not buying a truck because I want to drive a truck every day.

My '92 had them. Beware of the exhaust bolt issues.
