Not content with showing off its BladeGlider electric car, Nissan's bringing its own Google Glass rival to the Tokyo Motor Show.

The Nissan 3E it stands for "Third Eye," which will delight frothing Illuminati-fearing conspiracy theorists is a chunky bit of wearable kit that wraps around the back of your head and displays images on an angled glass screen in front of your left eye. Google Glass, of course, sits on your right eye, so if you had a mind to you could wear both devices at the same time.

What exactly the 3E will do remains a mystery Nissan's only released a teaser ad in which a male model strikes moody poses while wearing the gadget. Nissan's recently revealed Nismo smartwatch concept offers some clues, though it tracks biometric data and displays social media and traffic alerts, and it's likely that the two devices will work together.

Of course, with some governments mulling a ban on Google Glass for drivers, it's open to question whether we'll ever get to use wearable displays like the 3E on the roads.

With Nissan prepping a smartwatch and a Google Glass rival, the car manufacturer looks set to muscle into the burgeoning wearable tech market so maybe it'll go the whole hog and release its own smartphone, too. Google Nexus 5, watch out.
