Tips for new Frontier owner?

Hi all.

I just picked up (heh) a 2004 Frontier XE-V6 for a steal. With the new, redesigned models coming out, and the "rebate," I was able to get an XE-V6 Crewcab (short bed), automatic with power for $17,5. I love the thing.

So I've come here looking for resources, tips, or advice to a new Nissan Frontier owner. Anything you guys have to offer is much appreciated.

What accessories do I need? Any special maintenance I should do? It's a work truck, but it's not going to see real heavy service. The first thing I intend to do is to replace the stock sparkplugs with Bosch Plat-2 plugs. Any reason I shouldn't? What's the proper breakin period? The dealer said "none" but the owner's manual says not to exceed 58 MPH for the first 1200 miles.

Thanks, folks. DFinder

If like most other Nissan models, the Frontier comes with NGK plugs, you'll regret buying Bosch plugs.

I got a similar deal. If you want to prevent the A/C from coming on automatically anytime you turn the dial to defrost, let me know. It is pretty annoying as there are many times I want air coming out of the top of the dash, but do not want the the compressor running. That was about the only thing I didn't like about the truck other than the rear is sprung too softly.

I second not replacing the plugs with Bosch.

Why would you take out those nice NGK Platinums and but in crappy Bosch's?

I was happy with the price, personally. Like I said it's a 2WD 2004 Frontier Crew, auto, power, short bed with liner and extender. My drive out price was about $18,680 or so.

Okay, the Bosch plugs are out. Forget I ever mentioned it. ;> It's just something I did to my Hondas, and I felt they were a good replacement plug after about 50K miles.

I haven't noticed the issue with the A/C in defrost mode. Honestly, I've only had this thing for 6 days and I may have spent 2 hours in it so far. Hell, I only adjusted the headrest _yesterday_!

I'd like to get a seat cover for the lower portion of the rear bench. I keep tools back there sometimes and I don't want to rip the seat or get it filthy. Not yet, anyway. Anybody got a lead on a good seat cover?

Can anybody tell me about the fuel gauge? It's a 19 gallon tank, what about reserve? Point being- I don't fully trust gauges so I watch the odometer as a clue when to fill up. Assuming city driving, how many miles can I expect from a full tank? I'm guessing best case scenario would be 19x19 (capacity X mpg). I guess I'll find out when I get through the first tank of gas.

I gotta get some cargo straps, or maybe just bungies. I dunno. It's Sunday, I think I'll go out for a drive.

Get some good front mats, like the kind that can hold a quart of water. I used 1 1/2 PVC Tubing to make separators for the cargo area. Do the defroster/Air conditioner mod.
