1998 MAx - BOSE Unit - How To Remove

Unit works in AM, FM and CD. But there is NO display and the only way to change to AM or FM or CD or change stations is that you must press fairly hard on the display panel while making the change (including turning the unit off).

The shop manual I have has one small illustration on removing the unit to get it serviced but it is of little help. Can anyone briefly tell me how to remove the unit so I can have a radio tech look at it.

Thanks

Advice on removing:

1) Keep hand towels and rubber bands handy so you can wrap / cover each panel as soon as you pop it free from the dash. The backsides of the panels have many sharp edges that will badly mar you dashboard on the slightest rub. 2) Read those directions carefully, print them and keep them with you as you go. You can't be too careful the first time until you learn and understand what's behind those panels holding it together.

I may have a functioning Bose headunit I'll send to you for the cost of shipping. I pulled it two years ago for an MP3 player. I just moved last week, so I need to find it first.

Not 'brief' and not easy. I did this once when I replaced my unit.

You will need a magnetic Philips (star) screw driver & Butter knives.

BE GENTLE MOST OF THE PLASTIC HAS LITTLE TABS THAT CAN BREAK. iF IT WON'T COME OUT, USE THYE BUTTER KNIFE TO RELEASE IT. BREAK THEM AND REGRET IT ALL THE WAY TO THE WRECKING YARD.

Remove lower console cover(around shifter, shifter knob comes off). Disconnect the lighter.

Remove the bordering cover from the storage bin to the vents and don't break any tabs!

Remove the entire console-climate and radio- 6- 8 screws.

Then, out of the car, remove the radio from the frame.

Re-assemble for your days(21) without radio.

Then do it again to put it back in.

OR

Option 1 - have a tested replacement unit ready to go right back - this is my favourite option because it was cheap and looks good...The yards will ask for big bucks but electronics are very negotiable - I paid $100 CDN.

Option 2 - go after-market - and let the installer worry about it and receive a warranty.
