91 Maxima stalls when put into gear after replacing torque converter

I took my 91 maxima SE(auto transmissiont) to the shop after I discovered it was leaking transmission fluid. Prior to this happening, I did notice the transmission torque was weak, especially in cold starts, but after it warmed up, the transmission was working fine..

The mechanic said the leak was due to a bad torque converter, so he replaced the torque converter. When I first picked up my car..I start the car and try to put it in any gear, the rpms drop below 500 and it stalls. The only way I can get it going is if I accelarate and pop it into gear, which can't be good for my tranny. After the car warms up, it won't stall but the rpms drop and the car shakes and almost stalls out.. The same happens when I come to a complete stop. Also, when I put it in Netruel or Park, the rpms jump to 1200-1300 for a few seconds, then come down to normal..

When I took it back to the mechanic, he took out some transimission fluid because he said he had put too much in it.. I think he took out an equivalent of approx 2 quarts. The car drove a bit smoother(not jerking between gears so much) after that, but I still have the stall/idle problem. If anyone can help me with advice on this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

You need a different mechanic. Sounds like the tirque converter is permanently locked. The guy HAD to have know that before he gave the car back to you. He's hoping you'll just go away.

Actually, now the mechanic says its the TCC solenoid, which cost $400 new. Any way to fix the old one? Could this have been broken with the installation of the new torque converter?
