lose in power

I have a 2000 nissan maxima. When I step on the gas, especially when I am going up a hill, the car makes a gurgling noise. I noticed the car is not as powerful as it used to be before this "girgling" started. Can anyone help me. Is this something I should be worried about?

Is your air filter housing sealed properly? I occasionally forget to secure the inner clamps and it makes a noise between 2-4K RPMs that I'd describe as loud gurgling.

Is it just the normal resonance noise that you don't notice because the car doesn't spend much time under load at lower RPMs? Occasionally the car won't downshift when I think it should (auto) and attempts to climb a hill in too high of a gear. It seems like if the load is high and the RPMs are low (under 2k) there's more intake noise (which sounds impressive, but nothing much is happening in the acceleration department), although maybe the VQ30 lugs like no engine I've ever heard. More throttle (often almost to the floor) and a downshift later the problem disappears.

My 2000 had a similar problem, that when I stepped hard on the gas, it kind of died for a half second, then took off. I replaced the MAF sensor. You can get one for $80, replace it yourself. Reset the computer by disconnecting the battery overnight. Now my Max runs smooth and has plenty of power, runs on regular gas and still gets 25 to 29 MPG.

I have a simular problem when you try to accelerate it goes to 4500 rpm and then stops accelerating. The check engine light codes shows 1320 in the P codes (?). Is it the MAF sensor or something else or a combo?

Thanks
