Strange noise after turning engine off (mainly)

Hi. I'm sure this isn't a fault, I just can't figure out what the hell it is. It's really bugging me.

I have a 2001 Maxima, auto. And when I turn the engine off, there are 4 or 5 sounds in a row that sound like some sort of pump. At first I though it was the aerial automaticly retracting.

The other day I also noticed it as I was slowly backing in somewhere, while the engine was still running.

Does anyone know exactly what this is? The oil pump or something?

Thanks, Justin.

Most likely what you are hearing is your fuel pump in the gas tank in the rear of the car. It's the only electric motor that is in the rear of the car other than the radio antenna.

It's comming from under the hood, not the rear.

Anti-lock brakes perhaps?
