Tire choice

Hi,

I have a 93 GXE auto, 147k.

At the moment it runs on Dunlop SP Sport AS400 tires, they are almost shot. Am considering Kumho Ecsta HP4s as replacements due to the very good reviews on this tire at tirerack.com

Anyone have anything good or bad to say about this choice.

I bought Dunlops just a few months ago for my '96 GLE, 73k. They beat the shit out of the original Toyos, esp. in the rain. How much mileage did you get out of your Dunlops?

I had those Dunlops on my 94 GXE 151K.The car had 90k at the time and I thought they were o.k.although a bit pricey.I changed to Futura Touring SE,80k rated tire from Pep Boys.I gotta say all things considered these tires were really impressive not to mention that they were about half the price of the dunlops.I have since givn that car to my daughter and just got a 2001 Max GLE and am bummed that these tires aren't available in 16in.BTW I am not affiliated in any way to pep boys.Hope I have helped.

The local Nissan dealer places only Kumho Ecsta 711's on their Max's. I had never heard of them before getting my Max but I have really like them. the 711's are rated as high speed for summer driving so I don't know if they are the same as the HP4's you mentioned. Don't forget to compare warranties.

I would look at the Michelin's, they see to be a very good tire. Also look at the Bridgestone Potenzas

I only got 25k, but then I didn't rotate them or have the alignment checked. The inner face of each front tire is scrubbed off down to the ply belts. Rears are still OK

If I had rotated and checked the alignment, they would probably been good for 40-45k. My driving is average. I will know better next time
