206 lambda question

Nothing to do with the current fuel problems! Daughter's 206cc has been playing up for a while, running very lumpy on tickover and shuddering when accelerating. Seems like the same problem my son had on a 306 so I am thinking it's the lambda sensor needing replacement? Car is on an 03 plate but I don't suppose that makes any difference as these things seem to go when they feel like it. I have found what I hope is a suitable replacement but would like your expert advice please.

Item is on Ebay --

Her car is the 1.6 206cc 2003.

Alternative is to pay a Pug dealer a huge amount of money!

TIA

Unfortunately not. Yours is a 1600 TU5JP4 engine, 16 valve twin cam I reckon. So it has 2 Lambda sensors, one before the cat and one after. The part numbers I think you need are:

1628HN for the upstream one 1628KY for the downstream one.

If you would like to post the last 8 of your VIN number I will tell you for sure.

Nigel, Many thanks for the quick reply. I'm sure when I looked under it when she had the front pipe replaced, there was just the one sensor on the downpipe facing forward as I thought at the time how much easier it would be to replace than the 306 XSi I did which is fitted on the top! Right pain to replace! Anyway here is the last 8 from the VIN from her last MOT --

43403351

I don't think it's a twin cam engine but I'm happy to be corrected!

Yes the part numbers are correct and it is a twin cam 16 valve engine. The upstream sensor is right on top of the manifold. The leads for both sensors go to seperate connectors adjacent to the thermostat unit above the gearbox. And it's usually the upstream one that goes, but you need to get it on a Diag machine to see whether they are both working as they should.

Ok many thanks. What sort of price are we looking at for them? How much is a diag likely to cost? I can fit them myself so only need the parts price!

I'm afraid I don't have any prices here at home. I can find out for you tomorrow morning and let you know then. I don't think they are that expensive from Peugeot, but you never know!!! The Diag is the machine that the Dealers use to read the fault codes and check components out to see if they are working (and many other things as well. You need to get it to a dealer or maybe a local garage may have a universal machine where they can read the faults. But I don't know if they can check out the sensors (called checking the parameters).

Ok thanks, I would appreciate a price if possible. Those prices came from Pug dealers though! Surely someone must sell equivalent spec sensors for sensible money? I'll have a ring round tomorrow as we have a German/French car parts specialist in the area. Maybe they can help to keep the cost down a bit.

You were right!! The price for each is £121.59 + VAT. Works out to be £142.86 each! I've had a quick look on various online specialists and I can't see anything. However you may well be luckier. I would suggest that you get the fault code read first to confirm what part you may need. Good luck!

Did a bit of phoning today and managed to find the correct NGK sensors for £51 + VAT! Going to get a diag done next week, found a garage that can do it for £28 + VAT rather than £46 + VAT at the dealer!

cheers, Len
