306 drivers door harness

Hi, the electric window switches on the drivers door of my '98 306xs stopped working. Plus they have no lights on them when the headlights are on even though the switch on the passenger side does and still works that window.

I have discovered that if I pull on the rubber gaiter on the harness between the door and the pillar the windows will work, let go and they stop working. This leads me to suspect an intermittent break in the cables of this harness.

Does anyone know how easy it is to replace this harness? ie is there another big plug inside the door pillar behind the dash that I can disconnect and buy a new harness or does the wiring spider off in all directions? Co-incidentally the lights on buzzer has stopped working at exactly the same time... is it possibly related at all?

Thanks

All related sadly. There is a repair kit available from Pug dealers for what is a known fault. Basically it involves cutting and splicing all the cables - I have no idea how big a job it is. I have the same problem except I can lower my passenger side window but then can't get it back up. I have simply disconnected the switch to avoid putting it down by mistake.

Probably.

Easy :-)

You can buy a harness with about 60cm long wires for about 60¤ at a Peugeot-dealer. Take the door off, then you'll have to cut the wires individually (Don't cut them all at once!), measure which pin they are connected to, do the same with the new harness, and then solder the new harness in.

Thanks guys, looks like it's a soldering iron job then...

I had almost the same problem. Pug dealer said it was a known fault. What I did was gently pull the rubber gaiter back until I could see which wires were causing the problem. I then 'bridged' each one with a small piece of wire (soldering iron job). Took me a while but it was cheap and lasted over a year when I sold the car. Pug dealer quoted £250+ to replace the known deffective wiring loom!

The problem is with the wiring harness between the door and the car itself. Pug have admitted to me that the early wiring was prone to snapping/breaking. When I took my 306 in for an intermittent door lock problem, it took them less than 10 mins to track the problem down! They went straight for the wiring between the door and the car and hey presto! breaks were visible. I just bridged them! Not willing to pay £250+ for them to sort a known problem!

On my car it was the mirrors - the guy went to the car, opened the door, pulled the rubber back and left me puzzled...

thats cos its a very common fault and not just on peugeots would be less common if silicone wiring was used (e.g test leads)

Or if alle corners would be round - or with a rubberhose around the wires.
