406

Hello Group. As 74 year old who doesn't crawl underneath cars any more, could anyone tell me if the 02 plate 406 estate has separate parts to the exhaust system or is it all in one piece. I have a slight blow and would like to get it fixed by a local garage, but am thinking that it would be handy to know what the system is before I venture over his threshold. Many thanks.

As a pentaganerian myself who no longer crawls under cars, I made the sad mistake of getting the local garage to fit a part exhaust to my 2000 406. When I got it back it had awfull vibration within a certain rev range which was only cured (partialy) by taking it to have the rest of the system replaced by someone who knows exhausts. Even at that I still have an annoying exhaust rattle on bumpy roads.. I'm afraid I have no idea if yours is one piece, but my own experience has dissuaded me from replacing parts on this vehicle, particularly by 'local' garages.

It's the 2.0 HDI.

For information. I had a new genuine Pug rear box fitted today, by my local garage, 1 hours labour + box = £105.00. which I thought was very reasonable.

I had the last two pieces after the cat fitted last year by an independent exhaust place in Caernarvon [1] for about £90.

[1] The moral of the story is always check the exhaust before going away on holiday.
