406 coupe stereo problem

I have recently bought a 406 coupe, when i bought the car it needed the security code for the stereo, after getting the code i put the stereo on for the first time only to find out that only one of the 8 speakers is working which is a tweeter on the passenger side on the dash, i have tried the balance and fader but that doesnt help, and have checked all the connections in the back of the stereo, can anyone give me any help please :(

As long as the unit os on and not asking fpr the security code it should work correctly.

Check the connections at the back of the unit first - unplug and re-plug them several times and spray lots of contact cleaner on them (spray it on the plug then connect it).

If that doesn't help the easiest thing to try is another head unit. - can you borrow one from a friends car or put yours in his to test. This will tell you if your speakers and wiring are working. If only the tweeter is working I think this comes of a connection that feeds front passenger speaker and tweeter so sounds like a fault with your wiring or speakers.

If you have a multimeter (or can buy one) you could check the resistances of the speaker feeds to check for a short....

Right, so as a none-SE car, you don't have the JBL Amp in the boot. In which case, either the headunit is knackered, or you have some duff wiring somewhere ! First thing to do is try a different head unit.

If you have an SE, then you have a JBL Amplifier in the boot. It's on the left hand side, in front of the CD Changer. Yours is probably knackered !

If it is that which is the problem is there any way to check to make sure, and if that is the fault can it be easily replaced?

Aye, you should be able to check with a multimeter, to see if signals are entering the amp from the headunit, and then leaving the amp in an amplified form, etc.
