406 HDi 110 advice

I'm looking at buying an ex-company owned 406 HDi 110 GTX Estate (45k miles,

2001/51) from my employer. I've spoken to the driver who had it from new. He tells me it's never been crashed or needed any bodywork repairs, never been smoked in and been well looked after. But it has needed some warranty work, namely:

New head gasket 3 months ago New engine management ECU after original failed New discs due to warping New radiator

I had a look at it this morning and it looks very good for its age & mileage (I've looked at a few). I'm on the verge of buying it, but thought it worth asking here whether the above failures should ring alarm bells. Are they likely to be one-offs on this car or is it the case that once e.g. the head gasket has gone it is likely to re-offend on a regular basis?

Also, there are only 2 keys with it, one without buttons, and one with. I'm told that this is normal and that only the Executive models have 2 with buttons. Can anyone confirm?

Is there a radio code with this model?

I noticed a slight squealing from the power steering pump area (could be from the accessory drive belt), didn't seem to be a real concern to me, but should it be?

They're asking just under £7k, which includes a warranty worth approx £300. Is £6670 a fair price?

TIA

A couple of comments here, first of all 3 year old 406 hdi can be picked up from regular fleet auctions for about £5k so even with a warranty that price sounds a little expensive, also having previous problems like you have mentioned would ring alarm bells for me and I would not even entertain it. As for the keys - it is normal to have one with button and one without(for spare). Also radio needs reprogramming by a dealer after disconnection of battery there is no code on them.

Thanks - price-wise, I'm sure a HDi 90 LX can be had for £5k or less, but does this really apply to a GTX estate? You get a lot of kit including cruise & satnav. Does anyone have access to CAP or Glasses guide? Details again are: 406 HDi 110 GTX [AC + SN] Estate (45k miles, 2001/51), colour Platinum Silver. Condition - excellent, history known. Not really fair to compare to an auction. I would expect to pay somewhere between trade & private sale price. Have checked Parkers & What Car & they suggest my price is about right. My employer's fleet management dept uses Cap to set the price, so it would be interesting to know what it says.
